A new study has revealed the NFL teams with the most expensive team apparel.
Online sportsbooks review platform Oddspedia analyzed the combined cost of official NFL merchandise, for fans looking to support their favorite team this season.
They calculated the average price of purchasing a team jersey, t-shirt, sweatshirt and hat for each of the 32 teams, to find which are the most and least expensive teams to support.
Steelers fans can expect to pay $293.85 on average for the combined cost of these four items of clothing, ranking them as the eighth most expensive NFL team for merchandise. This total is comprised of the average cost of a jersey ($141.49), a t-shirt ($42.10), a sweatshirt ($78.45) and a hat ($31.81).
The most expensive team merch
1. Philadelphia Eagles – Total cost: $308.46
The Philadelphia Eagles were found to have the most expensive merch overall, requiring fans to spend $308.46 on average for a jersey, t-shirt, hoodie and hat.
The Eagles also boast the most expensive jerseys of any NFL team, at an average price of $157.59 across the 50 best sellers. Those with a bigger budget may wish to splash out on the Brian Dawkins 2004 Throwback Jersey, which normally retails for a cool $324.99.
2. Detroit Lions – Total cost: $306.23
The Detroit Lions have the second highest price tag for sports fanatics, at a total of $306.23 on average for the aforementioned four items of clothing.
The Lions have the most expensive sweatshirts of any team on average, setting supporters back $85.87 on average.
3. San Francisco 49ers – Total cost: $300.05
The San Francisco 49ers have the third most expensive merch, at a total of $300.05 on average.
The 49ers didn’t come top for any of the four clothing items but had the second most expensive hats ($35.78), fourth most expensive sweatshirts ($76.89) and fifth most expensive T-shirts ($45.95) of any team.
4. New York Jets – Total cost: $296.74
The New York Jets offer the fourth most expensive merch, at a total of $296.74.
The Jets listed the second most expensive sweatshirts at $83.90, and the sixth most expensive T-shirts at $45.70. Fans looking to snag a team jersey can expect reasonable value for money however, at an average cost of $132.59, ranking 20th out of 32 teams for this type of clothing item.
5. Dallas Cowboys – Total cost: $295.99
The Dallas Cowboys have the fifth most expensive merch on average, at a total of $295.99. The Cowboys had the most expensive T-shirts of any team, at a staggering $50.53 each. The navy Long Sleeve Waffle Knit T-shirt was among the top sellers and cost a modest $79.99.
The least expensive team merch
The Arizona Cardinals were found to have the cheapest team merchandise on average, with fans dishing out a reasonable $225.14 on average for team apparel. Fans of The Birds can also expect to bag the cheapest jerseys of any team at an average cost of $91.61.

A spokesperson for Oddspedia commented on the findings, saying,
“It is fascinating to observe the price disparity between the most and least popular teams, when it comes to fan apparel. At a fundamental level, supply and demand is likely to have the most significant influence on how much fans can expect to pay for merchandise.
“Teams such as the Eagles are likely to experience a greater demand for merchandise due to their large fan base and higher chance of winning their division. This means items of clothing can retail at a higher price, and there is less need for heavy price discounts to shift stock.”

Methodology:
Using NFLShop.com the average price of a jersey, T-shirt, sweatshirt and hat was calculated, based on the 50 best-selling items in each category. The average cost of these four items was totaled for each NFL team and ranked from highest to lowest.
