2018’s Tomb Raider Ranked as the Best Gaming Movie Adaptation of All Time – Do You Agree?

Since Super Mario Bros hit our screens as the first-ever blockbuster video game movie back in 1993, we’ve seen other popular games such as Mortal Kombat and Need for Speed also transformed into movies. But which adaptations do we love? 

To find out people’s favorite gaming movie adaptations, we asked gaming and movie fans their opinion. Having analyzed the results comparethemarket.com reveal 2018’s Tomb Raider as the top gaming movie adaptation.

The top five gaming movie adaptations are:

A third (33.2%) said Tomb Raider (2018) is their favorite film, while nearly a fifth (19.5%) chose 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider as one of their favorite adaptations. 2003’s Lara Croft: The Cradle of Life didn’t make the top five although it was ranked as the 11th best film, according to nearly one in nine (11.9%).  

Taking the fifth spot is 2017’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. This action-packed series has a total of six films. Looking at the responses, the first film, released in 2002, is the second favorite of the mix (8.9%), while 2004’s Apocalypse is at the bottom (4.5%).

Two films that didn’t quite make the top five but took sixth and seventh position include the 2017 adaptation of the hit Ubisoft video game series, Assassin’s Creed (15.8%). Followed by 2020’s Monster Hunter (15%), where a group of soldiers are pulled into a dangerous world where monsters and humans co-exist.
